KNH Embraces Advanced Medical Technology

Kenyatta National Hospital has announced a major achievement in specialised treatment after doctors successfully conducted painless haemorrhoids surgery using laser-assisted technology.

The minimally invasive procedure was performed on two patients suffering from haemorrhoids, commonly referred to as piles, a condition that affects millions globally and can cause severe discomfort if left untreated.

Hospital officials described the successful surgeries as an important step in modernising healthcare services and improving patient experience in Kenya.

Faster Recovery, Less Pain

Medical experts at the hospital explained that conventional haemorrhoids surgery is often linked to intense post-operative pain, bleeding, and long recovery periods.

However, laser-assisted treatment offers a more precise approach by targeting affected tissue while minimising damage to surrounding areas. As a result, patients experience reduced pain and quicker healing.

According to the hospital, the two patients who underwent the procedure were discharged within a short period and are currently recovering well.

Reducing Need for Treatment Abroad

The introduction of the technology is also expected to ease the burden on patients who previously had to travel abroad for advanced colorectal procedures.

KNH said the move aligns with its broader mission of strengthening specialised healthcare services while positioning the institution as one of the leading referral and teaching hospitals in the region.

Healthcare professionals at the facility also encouraged Kenyans experiencing symptoms such as bleeding, swelling, itching, or persistent pain to seek medical attention early to avoid complications.

A New Era for Specialised Care

The development reflects the growing adoption of modern medical technology in Kenya’s public healthcare system.

As hospitals continue investing in advanced treatment methods, patients could soon benefit from more efficient procedures, shorter hospital stays, and improved overall care.
