Police in Kericho have opened a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of teacher Martina Chepkemoi Ruto near Kimugu River.
Chepkemoi had been missing for several days after she left her home in Abosi on August 26, reportedly heading to Lalagin Senior School in Bureti Constituency, where she worked.
Her disappearance triggered a search involving relatives, colleagues and members of the local community.

Officers are additionally examining how her body ended up near Kimugu River and whether the location was connected to the killing or was simply used to conceal the body.

Chepkemoi’s body was taken to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

The case comes shortly after the fatal shooting of 45-year-old Doris Murei at a GSU Mess compound in Eldoret.
A GSU constable attached to a governor was arrested in connection with Murei’s death and is facing murder allegations.
