Ol Kalou Constituency has a new Member of Parliament after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially declared Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) the winner of the July 16 by-election. Waweru cruised to victory with an overwhelming majority, defeating eight other candidates in the closely watched contest.

DCP Candidate Claims Comfortable Victory

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially declared Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) as the duly elected Member of the National Assembly for Ol Kalou Constituency.

Returning Officer Antony Njiraine announced the final results after the completion of vote tallying from the by-election held on July 16, 2026.

Waweru secured a commanding 35,440 votes, comfortably defeating his closest challenger, Samuel Muchina Nyagah of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), who garnered 5,450 votes.

57 Percent Voter Turnout

According to IEBC, 73,480 voters were registered in Ol Kalou Constituency, with 41,656 ballots cast during the by-election, translating to a 57 percent voter turnout.

IEBC Commends Stakeholders

Following the announcement, the electoral commission expressed appreciation to the residents of Ol Kalou, candidates, political parties, election officials, security agencies, observers, members of the media and all other stakeholders for contributing to what it described as a peaceful and orderly electoral process.

With the by-election now concluded, attention shifts to how the newly elected MP will deliver on campaign promises and represent the people of Ol Kalou in Parliament.
