Viral Incident Draws Public Attention
The National Police Service has responded to a viral video showing a female traffic police officer being harassed while on duty in Nakuru County. The incident, which reportedly occurred during a traffic enforcement exercise, quickly sparked public outrage online after footage of the confrontation circulated on social media.
According to preliminary investigations, the officer was verbally abused and intimidated by a man who appeared unhappy with the ongoing operation.
Suspect Identified as Fellow Officer
In a statement, NPS confirmed that the man captured in the video was not an ordinary motorist but a police officer stationed within Nakuru County.
The Service said the officer’s actions went against the standards expected from members of the police service, particularly values linked to professionalism, discipline, integrity, and mutual respect among officers.
NPS also stated that the behaviour displayed in the video did not represent the values or training associated with the institution.
Action Already Underway
Authorities confirmed that disciplinary and corrective processes had already been initiated against the male officer involved in the confrontation.
At the same time, the Service commended the female traffic officer for remaining composed and professional despite the tense situation. Many Kenyans online also praised her calm response, with some describing her conduct as courageous and disciplined under pressure.
NPS Calls for Professionalism
The police service used the incident to remind officers about the importance of professionalism when dealing with colleagues and members of the public.
NPS further encouraged Kenyans to report cases of misconduct through official police reporting channels and local police stations to help strengthen accountability within the service.
