Main Story

Kindiki Defends His Position

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has strongly defended his position in government, insisting that an attempt to remove him from office would not succeed.

Speaking on Friday at a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) event involving polling centre officials in Tharaka Nithi County, Kindiki referenced President William Ruto’s political experience as he served as deputy to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kindiki recalled the strained relationship between Ruto and Uhuru during the latter part of their administration, saying efforts were made to push Ruto out of government.

‘We Stood Firm’

According to Kindiki, Ruto remained in office despite the political pressure and completed his tenure as Uhuru’s deputy.

He said the political camp around Ruto remained firm until the end, suggesting that the same resolve would protect his current position.

Kindiki then made remarks that appeared to be directed at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was removed from office following an impeachment process in 2024.

Apparent Dig at Gachagua

Kindiki questioned how a sitting Deputy President could be removed from office, arguing that such an outcome was not possible under the circumstances.

His comments are likely to attract attention given his increasingly prominent role in the administration and the ongoing political rivalry involving Gachagua and other figures ahead of the next election.

Gachagua’s removal remains a major reference point in Kenya’s recent political history, particularly in discussions about the powers and security of the Deputy President’s office.

2027 Politics Takes Shape

Kindiki’s remarks come at a time when political realignments are already taking shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Debate over coalition partnerships and the future composition of the broad-based government has intensified, with political leaders positioning themselves and their allies for the next electoral contest.

With the Deputy President’s office likely to remain central to these negotiations, Kindiki’s firm defence of his position adds another layer to the unfolding political conversation.
