Detectives have foiled a daring robbery targeting a senior military officer in Kitengela, arresting six suspects including serving Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) members following a carefully coordinated intelligence operation. The operation has exposed a criminal syndicate involving both military personnel and civilians.

Highlights:

  • Six suspects, including KDF personnel and civilians, arrested before executing the robbery.
  • Police intercepted a black Toyota Harrier and a Toyota Ractis linked to the plot.
  • Items recovered included military uniforms, tools, and multiple mobile phones.
  • Investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s activities.

Main Story:

Intelligence-Led Operation
On Monday, March 23, 2026, detectives acting on credible intelligence monitored a group planning a robbery targeting a senior KDF officer. Surveillance tracked their movements, allowing police to intercept the suspects before any attack could occur.

The Arrests
On the day of the planned heist, the suspects arrived in a black Toyota Harrier, while a second vehicle, a Toyota Ractis, waited nearby with a driver on standby. A female suspect attempted to gain access at the officer’s main gate, but detectives, already securing the area, arrested her immediately. Backup teams then intercepted both vehicles, leading to the arrest of all six individuals.

The Suspects
The arrested individuals include:

  • Charles Kiio Matata, a KDF sergeant at Kahawa Garrison
  • David Ng’aa Mwangangi, civilian mechanic attached to KDF Kahawa Barracks
  • Samuel Agango Odoyo, KDF member on interdiction
  • Alex Mumo Kisilu, resident of Umoja
  • Richard Mwania Muasya, resident of Tala
  • Stella Nzuki Mweni, resident of Umoja Inner Core

They remain in custody for processing and interrogation.

Evidence Recovered
A search at the scene revealed items believed to be intended for the robbery, including KDF jungle uniforms, military boots, a crowbar, claw hammer, knife, pliers, and multiple mobile phones. Authorities are examining the items to determine the full scale of the syndicate’s criminal activities.

Ongoing Investigations
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has emphasized its commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks, warning that rank or status will not shield anyone from justice. Investigators continue probing possible links to other criminal incidents.
