Main Story:
Night Raid in Lavington
Detectives in Nairobi have launched investigations following a daring robbery at a residential home in Lavington, where a group of armed men targeted foreign occupants and escaped with cash and valuables worth millions.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening, catching the residents off guard as four men gained access to the compound.
How the Attack Unfolded
According to police reports, the suspects were allowed into the premises by a security guard who believed they were expected guests. Once inside, the gang quickly took control of the situation.
The attackers reportedly forced the 12 occupants to lie down before roughing them up and proceeding to loot the house. They were armed with crude weapons and appeared well-coordinated.
What Was Stolen
Among the items stolen were two safes containing approximately US$20,000 along with undisclosed amounts in Kenyan shillings, Chinese Yuan, and Japanese Yen. The gang also took mobile phones, gold jewellery, and passports before fleeing the scene in a waiting vehicle.
One of the stolen phones was later recovered along Amboseli Road, just a short distance from the residence.
Investigations and Suspicions
Police officers who responded to the incident confirmed that no arrests have been made so far, but investigations are ongoing. Detectives say they are following key leads and have not ruled out the possibility that the attackers had prior knowledge of the money stored in the house.
The security guard who was on duty during the incident has since been detained for questioning as authorities dig deeper into potential insider involvement.
A Growing Trend
The robbery adds to a growing list of similar cases where victims are trailed and attacked after handling large sums of money. Authorities have raised concerns about criminal networks that monitor financial movements, especially around banking halls, before striking.
Residents are now calling for tighter security measures and better coordination to curb the rising trend of targeted robberies.
