Main Story
Directors Presented in Court
A group of senior officials linked to the management of The Nairobi Hospital appeared in court on Monday, March 16, after spending two nights in police custody.
The directors were transported to the Milimani Law Courts early in the day where they were expected to be formally charged over a series of alleged governance violations within the hospital’s parent association.
Among those detained is Job Lukuru Obwaka, an elderly physician who serves as a director at the Kenya Hospital Association and is also an admitting consultant at the hospital.
Where the Officials Were Held
Over the weekend, different members of the group were held at separate police stations across Nairobi.
Dr. Obwaka and hospital board vice chair Samson Kinyanjui were detained at Muthaiga Police Station.
Meanwhile, director Valery Gaya and former board member Chris Bichage spent the night at Pangani Police Station as investigations continued.
Allegations of Fraudulent Registration
According to investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Dr. Obwaka faces several charges connected to the alleged improper registration of members within the Kenya Hospital Association.
Authorities claim that between July and December 2024, more than 300 individuals were registered as members of the association through deceptive means.
Prosecutors also allege that key governance procedures were ignored, including the failure to submit amended articles of the company and financial statements to the Registrar as required under the law.
Other Directors Face Similar Charges
Investigators say the other detained officials are also expected to face related charges linked to the management and compliance obligations of the association.
The case adds another layer to the ongoing governance wrangles that have recently placed one of Kenya’s most prominent private hospitals under intense scrutiny.
