Police in Bondo are investigating the death of a 35-year-old man following an alleged assault at a gold mining site.
The deceased, identified as Zachary Okeyo Odhiambo, was reportedly working at the Domba Agenda mining site in Uyawi when he got into a disagreement with another worker.
According to preliminary police reports, the dispute became physical and Okeyo was allegedly struck during the confrontation.
Worker Dies After Being Rushed to Hospital
Okeyo reportedly lost consciousness after the incident.
His colleagues quickly transported him to Uyawi Sub-County Hospital in an effort to save his life. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Officers from Bondo Police Station later visited the mining site as detectives began establishing what led to the fatal confrontation.
Suspect Flees Scene
Preliminary investigations indicate that the person suspected of assaulting Okeyo left the mining area after the 35-year-old collapsed.
Police have since launched a search for the suspect as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
Interestingly, officers reported that Okeyo’s body did not have any obvious external injuries.
His remains were subsequently taken to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where they will be preserved pending a postmortem examination.
