Kenyans should brace for another week of unpredictable weather, with the Kenya Meteorological Department forecasting continued rainfall across multiple regions alongside bursts of sunshine and fluctuating temperatures.

Rainfall to Continue Across Key Regions

According to the latest forecast, rains will persist in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South Rift, Coastal areas, Southeastern lowlands, and Northeastern Kenya.

Acting director Edward Muriuki noted that the country will experience a mix of weather conditions, including showers, thunderstorms, and sunny intervals throughout the week.

Western and Rift Valley Regions

Counties in Western Kenya and around the Lake Victoria Basin including Kisumu County, Kakamega County, Bungoma County, Siaya County, and Homa Bay County are expected to experience morning rains followed by afternoon and nighttime thunderstorms.

Similar patterns are forecast in the Rift Valley, affecting areas such as Nakuru County, Uasin Gishu County, Narok County, and Baringo County.

Nairobi and Central Highlands

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Nyeri County, Murang’a County, and Kiambu County mornings will start off cloudy with occasional rains, followed by sunny breaks before showers return later in the day.

Northeastern and Coastal Outlook

Regions such as Mandera County, Wajir County, Garissa County, and Isiolo County are expected to receive rainfall, especially in the early part of the forecast period.

Meanwhile, coastal counties like Mombasa County, Kilifi County, Kwale County, and Lamu County will see intermittent showers throughout the day.

Sunny but Unpredictable Lowlands

The Southeastern lowlands including Machakos County, Kitui County, Makueni County, and Kajiado County, are expected to experience mostly sunny days with occasional rainfall.

In contrast, Northwestern regions such as Turkana County and Samburu County will remain largely dry, with only isolated showers expected.

Temperature Swings Across the Country

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain high in lowland areas, exceeding 30°C in regions such as the Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern Kenya.

Meanwhile, colder nights are expected in high-altitude areas, with temperatures dropping below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands and Rift Valley.

Recent Weather Trends

Data from the previous week shows shifting weather patterns, with a slight drop in rainfall amounts across the country.

Kisumu County recorded the highest rainfall at 109.9mm, while Kericho registered the heaviest single-day rainfall.

Temperature extremes were also noted, with Mandera recording highs of 37.6°C, while Nyahururu experienced chilly lows of 6.6°C.
