The minister of education, Ezekiel Machogu, released the KCPE exams earlier today, with over 8,000 students scoring above 400 marks.

The CS released the results at the Mitihani House in the company of education stakeholders, including PS Belio Kipsang and Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia, among others.

In summary, 8,525 candidates scored above 400 ~ 500 marks, whereas 352,782 candidates scored 300 ~ 400 marks.

658,278 candidates lied between 200 and 299 marks, and 383,025 candidates scored 100 ~ 199 marks.

Lastly, the last cohort of 2,060 candidates managed to score 100 marks, which is below an improvement from the previous year’s result.

And the 8-4-4 system that was restructured earlier this year was replaced with the competency-based curriculum, which is a 2-6-6-3 system.

Since 1985, 39 cohorts have sat the KCPE examination, with two major reviews made on the assessment tools and awarding criteria.

The KCPE examination has been offered to over 26 million candidates, and a total of 103,000 non-citizens have been certified after sitting for the examinations.

Individual examination results can be accessed by sending the candidate’s index number, followed by the initials ‘KCPE’, to SMS code 40054.
