When you are younger, you think that adulting is owning a posh house and a car and being able to go out at whatever hour you please, wearing whatever tickles your fancy.

Then you grow up and realize that it’s more about trying to fit your bills into your salary, trying to slay on a budget, and coming up with excuses about why you can’t go out every weekend.

Walk out of any relationship that’s not building you up.

The best thing about growing up has to be that you finally realize that ‘kuvumilia’ is overrated. The quality of a relationship is not determined by how long it lasts.

The real test is knowing when enough is enough and having the courage to walk away from that man you’ve been dreaming of growing old with. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? But don’t resort to this yet unless, otherwise, it is a toxic relationship. I believe some things can be worked out, but that shouldn’t be an excuse to forgive a cheating or lying partner. Time and time again, what you will be doing is just hurting yourself.

Know How to Cook for Heaven’s Sake
There’s no way you can be a female and completely lack the idea of preparing a meal. I mean, someday you are going to have kids, be someone’s wife, or have a family who will be doing all that. Don’t give me that ‘Maid look. What if she’s not around and restaurants are closed?

A woman should learn to cook because it’s a basic life skill. Why would you want to leave your health and wellness in the hands of other people?

Learn to say no without guilt.

Girls are part of the community. Your brothers were encouraged to travel far from home when you were growing up, but you were told not to go too far. remembering the people you leave behind.

Saying no is therefore difficult for black women. You will need to learn how to say yes to everything, from organizing all of your friends’ birthday surprises to serving as the chamas’ treasurer.

Asking yourself what you are accepting every time you turn someone down is a smart place to start. Saying no to hosting that party, for example, is a way to say yes to some much-needed alone time for self-care.

Check your breasts for cancer.
In Kenya, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. This indicates that teaching women how to perform a breast examination has significant benefits.


It appears that it’s time to get acquainted with the breasts. Don’t forget to let your doctor know about any changes. When it comes to breast cancer, early detection is crucial.

Take good care of your skin.
As much as I hate to break it to you, the freedom and the good life that adulthood offer come with wrinkles and dry skin in tow. You need to learn to take care of your skin. The earlier you learn this, the better.
The secret isn’t in finding expensive products; it’s in finding a daily skincare routine that works.
