Former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe, who was charged alongside Irungu, has been acquitted of the murder charge due to a lack of enough evidence, and instead Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, was found guilty.
Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, has been found guilty of the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani in September 2018. The case has been going on for a period of 5 years now, and finally the final verdict has been issued.
“Having considered the evidence in this matter, it is the finding of this court that the prosecution has adduced adequate evidence and has met the threshold… It is the finding of this court that the first accused person murdered the deceased,” Justice Grace Nzioka ruled.
Jacque Maribe was pronounced not guilty in a court proceeding that took place on Friday, September 9, 2024, at Milimani Courts over a lack of enough evidence to hold her down.
“It is my considered view that the charge brought against the second accused person was not the proper charge,” she said.
“Was there any offense committed when the second accused person stated the investigating officer at Lang’ata police station, which turned out to be not true? I say no more. The office of the Director of Public Prosecution knows its mandate.
“The result is that the prosecution did not adduce enough evidence for this court to find the second accused person guilty of the offense of murder of Monica Nyawira Kimani on the night of September 19, 2018,” Justice Nzioka said.
The late Monica’s body is said to have been found at her Lamuria Gardens apartment, which is located on Kitale Lane off Denis Pritt Road in Kilimani.
