Burial Dispute Turns Disturbing
Police in Homa Bay County have arrested a man and his son following a disturbing incident in which the body of the man’s wife was allegedly removed from her grave and reburied elsewhere. The incident has left residents of Magina village in shock.
Authorities say the disagreement began over where Agnes Otieno Opiyo should be laid to rest, setting the stage for a dramatic escalation even after her burial.
Family Rift Over Final Resting Place
Reports indicate that Agnes was buried on Thursday, June 18, within her family homestead despite objections from her husband, who insisted she be buried in a separate grave he had prepared outside the compound in a maize plantation.
However, her in-laws opposed the proposal and proceeded with burial within the homestead, triggering tension between both sides of the family.
Grave Allegedly Tampered With
According to police investigations, the husband later returned to the grave site and, with the help of his son and brother, allegedly exhumed the body and moved it to the location he had originally chosen.
Village elders raised alarm after noticing the grave had been disturbed, prompting officers from Magina Police Station to launch inquiries.
Arrests Made as Probe Continues
The man and his son were arrested and taken into custody as police continue investigations into the incident. Authorities are also pursuing the third individual allegedly involved in the exhumation.
Police have emphasized that disturbing a grave is a criminal offence under Kenyan law, and those responsible will face appropriate charges once investigations are completed.
Separate Murder Probe in Narok

Authorities believe he may have been attacked after arriving home, although the exact motive remains unclear. His body has been moved to Abossi Mortuary pending post-mortem examination.
