While addressing Kenyans living in Rome, President William Ruto cautioned against treating social media as a reliable source of information about Kenya. He noted that digital platforms are increasingly being used to spread distorted narratives, often driven by political interests.
According to the President, the online space can paint an overly negative picture of the country, which may not reflect the actual situation on the ground.
Focus on Long-Term Transformation
Ruto emphasized that his leadership is centered on long-term national transformation rather than short-term political gains. He acknowledged that some of the decisions made by his administration may be difficult but insisted they are necessary to move the country forward.
He also pointed out that Kenya has managed to stay financially stable despite predictions that it could default on its debt, a scenario that affected several other African countries.
Highlighting Economic Gains
The President used the opportunity to outline key milestones achieved during his time in office. He cited improvements in healthcare through the Social Health Authority, which has significantly expanded access to medical services.
He also pointed to the Affordable Housing Programme, saying it has created hundreds of thousands of jobs while providing homes to many families across the country.

He also highlighted government efforts to support citizens abroad, including the creation of the State Department of Diaspora Affairs and agreements with foreign countries to secure better working conditions for Kenyan workers.
Additionally, he revealed that hundreds of thousands of Kenyans have secured jobs overseas through structured labour programs, while rogue recruitment agencies have been shut down.

Ruto urged Kenyans in the diaspora to respect the laws of their host countries and represent Kenya positively. Leaders accompanying him echoed the call, encouraging investment back home as a way to drive growth and create opportunities.
