Main Story:

Rainfall to Intensify Midweek

The Kenya Meteorological Department has projected a shift in weather patterns this week, with rainfall expected to pick up significantly from Thursday. While early days of the week will see light showers, heavier downpours are likely as the week progresses.

Some areas may also experience thunderstorms, particularly during afternoon and night hours.

Regions Expected to Be Affected

The forecast indicates that several parts of the country will experience increased rainfall. These include the Highlands both east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley region, the South-eastern lowlands, and coastal areas.

Counties such as Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Meru, and Embu are among those in the Highlands East expected to receive more rain. Meanwhile, regions like Kisumu, Kakamega, Nakuru, and Narok in the Highlands West and Rift Valley are also set to experience similar conditions.

South-Eastern and Coastal Areas Not Left Out

The South-eastern lowlands including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, and Kajiado are also expected to receive rainfall, alongside parts of Tana River County.

At the Coast, areas such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale should anticipate showers that will gradually intensify from Thursday, potentially affecting both coastal and inland zones.

Changing Weather Patterns Through the Week

Residents in Nairobi and surrounding regions should expect a mix of weather conditions including occasional morning rains and more widespread showers later in the day.

In the Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley, the week may begin with sunny intervals before transitioning into periods of rainfall as conditions shift.

Flood Risk and Safety Advisory

The meteorological agency has cautioned that some areas could experience heavy rainfall episodes, increasing the likelihood of localized flooding.

However, not all regions will be affected. Parts of North-Eastern and North-Western Kenya are expected to remain largely dry and sunny throughout the week.

Authorities are advising the public to stay updated with daily forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas.
