Main Story

Siaya Hosts Key Digital Innovation Summit

Bondo town in Siaya County recently hosted the 2026 Digital Innovation and Job Creation Summit, an event focused on strengthening Kenya’s digital ecosystem. The gathering highlighted the importance of digital connectivity, skills training, and the growth of creative industries as drivers of economic development.

Under the theme “Empowering Siaya’s Future: Digital Connectivity, Skills, Jobs, and Creative Economy for Sustainable Growth,” the summit brought together government leaders, innovators, and young creatives eager to explore opportunities within the digital space.

Government Push for Inclusive Digital Growth

Speaking during the launch, President William Ruto emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that every region benefits from the country’s digital transformation journey.

He noted that innovation should not be confined to major cities but should extend to counties and local communities where young people are eager to create solutions and build businesses.

According to the president, expanding access to digital infrastructure, skills training, and affordable smart devices will help ensure that youth across the country can actively participate in the modern digital economy.

A First-of-Its-Kind Community BPO Center

One of the biggest highlights of the launch is the establishment of a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) center within the Siaya Community Digital Hub. This marks the first time a community-based hub in Kenya is integrating a BPO facility designed to serve both local enterprises and international clients.

The project forms part of the broader strategy by the Konza Technopolis Development Authority to expand digital innovation and technology-driven opportunities across counties.

Training Youth for Global Opportunities

Already, 20 young people from the region have undergone training to operate an AI-supported customer service platform. The system allows them to handle customer inquiries across multiple communication channels including messaging platforms, websites, and phone calls.

The initiative is expected to open doors for more youth to secure digital jobs while positioning Kenya as an increasingly competitive destination for global outsourcing services.

With the hub now operational, Siaya could become a model for how digital infrastructure can create employment and unlock opportunities for young people far beyond traditional urban tech hubs.

As digital hubs spread across the country, the question now is clear: could small towns like Bondo become the next big centers of Kenya’s digital economy?
