The Ministry of Health has confirmed that Kenya has not recorded any Ebola Virus Disease cases, even as neighbouring countries continue to report outbreaks. According to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, all suspected cases investigated so far have tested negative.
The government says it is maintaining high vigilance to prevent any potential importation of the virus.
Mass Screening at Entry Points
More than 140,000 travellers arriving from Ebola-affected regions have undergone screening at airports and land border points. In addition, over 100 alerts have been investigated as part of the country’s surveillance system.
Health officials say these measures are designed to detect and isolate any possible case early before it spreads within communities.
Preparedness Measures Activated
The Kenya National Public Health Institute activated the national Ebola Incident Management System on May 20, 2026, to coordinate response efforts across the country.
Measures include enhanced screening, expanded laboratory testing capacity, strengthened surveillance in counties, and preparation of isolation and treatment facilities.
Healthcare workers have also undergone additional training, while protective equipment and medical supplies have been stocked to support rapid response efforts.
Why Isolation Facilities Are in Place
CS Duale clarified that the existence of quarantine and isolation centres does not mean Kenya has any confirmed Ebola case. Instead, he said the facilities are part of standard preparedness measures.
He compared the strategy to preparing firefighting equipment before an actual fire, emphasizing the importance of readiness in public health emergencies.
Public Advisory and Prevention
Kenyans have been urged to remain calm but alert, and to observe basic preventive measures such as regular hand washing, avoiding contact with bodily fluids of sick individuals, and limiting non-essential travel to affected countries.
The ministry also advised the public to rely only on official government communication channels for accurate information.

The Health Ministry noted that early preparedness is significantly cheaper than managing a full-scale outbreak, which can cause severe disruptions to trade, travel, and national economies.
