Young Mechanic Dies at Garage
A young mechanic has died after a vehicle he was repairing fell on him at a garage in Dagoretti Corner, Nairobi.
Police identified the deceased as 22-year-old Philip King’ori, who was working on a Leyland Ashok vehicle when the incident occurred.
According to police and witnesses, the accident happened at around 5pm on Monday, September 21, 2026.
Hydraulic Jack Reportedly Slipped
Initial reports indicate that a hydraulic jack being used to support the vehicle suddenly slipped.
The vehicle then fell, striking King’ori on the head and leaving him with serious injuries.
Those at the garage immediately rushed him to Melchizedek Hospital in an attempt to save his life.
However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police Process Scene
Police officers visited the garage after the incident and found King’ori’s body lying on a hospital bed.
Officers noted visible injuries on the left side of his head.
Scenes of Crime personnel subsequently examined and documented the location as part of investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The body was later transferred to City Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Investigation Underway
Police have classified the incident as an accident but said investigations are continuing.
The postmortem is expected to provide further information as authorities establish the exact cause of death.
Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamud described the death as a major loss, particularly to King’ori’s family and those who knew him.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers mechanics and other workers can face when handling heavy machinery and vehicles.
