Main Story
Public Tip-Off Leads to Arrest
Officers from Jogoo Road Police Station have arrested a man suspected of impersonating a police officer and using the false identity to extort unsuspecting members of the public.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest followed information provided by members of the public about a man allegedly presenting himself as a law enforcement officer around Jogoo Road.
The suspect, identified as Augustine Mjomba Mwadime, was apprehended at DC Stage during the operation.

Suspect Allegedly Claimed to Be a Sergeant
The DCI reported that when officers confronted him, Mwadime introduced himself as Sergeant Augustine Mjomba Mwadime.
He further claimed to be attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) Training School in Embakasi.
However, officers questioned the authenticity of his claimed position and proceeded to search him, leading to the discovery of items suspected to have been used to support the impersonation.
Forged Certificate and Handcuffs Recovered
Among the items reportedly recovered was a forged certificate of appointment bearing a fake service number.
Officers also found a pair of handcuffs and two keys, which investigators believe may have been used to make the suspect appear to have legitimate police authority.
The recovered items were taken as part of the evidence in the investigation.
Suspect Faces Court Process
Mwadime was taken into police custody, where he is undergoing processing ahead of arraignment.
The arrest highlights the role members of the public can play in reporting suspicious conduct and helping authorities respond to suspected crime.
Police are expected to pursue the case through the relevant legal process, where the allegations against the suspect will be examined.
A police uniform or title carries public trust. When someone allegedly uses that trust to intimidate or exploit others, speaking up can help stop the deception.
