Fans across East Africa are set for one of the biggest cinematic events of 2026 as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu officially premieres in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania starting May 22, 2026.

The highly anticipated return to the Star Wars universe brings audiences back together with Din Djarin and Grogu in a visually stunning new chapter built for the big-screen experience. Packed with action, emotional storytelling, large-scale battles, and breathtaking 3D visuals, the film continues the story that fans around the world have been waiting to see unfold in theaters.

A New Mission Begins

Set after the fall of the Empire, the film follows Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, and his young apprentice Grogu as they navigate a galaxy still struggling with instability and rising threats. As the New Republic attempts to restore order, dangerous Imperial warlords continue operating in the shadows, forcing the pair into what promises to be their most thrilling mission yet.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the movie also stars Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White. The film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni, with award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson delivering the score.

East Africa Joins the Global Celebration

To mark the release of the film, a major red carpet media screening event will take place on May 22, 2026 at Century Cinemax Two Rivers, bringing together fans, media personalities, creators, and movie lovers for an exclusive first look at the next chapter of the Star Wars saga.

The premiere event will feature immersive fan experiences, themed activations, and exclusive moments as Kenyan audiences become among the first in the region to experience the film in eye-popping 3D on the big screen.

Speaking about the release, Trushna Buddhdev-Patel said:

“We’re excited to bring the film to cinemas wide across East Africa, and urge audiences to watch it on the big screen where the visuals, sound and emotions are an immersed experience.”

Meanwhile, Sheila Changangu highlighted the excitement surrounding the premiere:
