Gospel musician Esther Wahome has explained that she doesn’t put her kids on social media because it is up to them to decide whether to join when they are all grown up.
Speaking to Silva Kido of SPM Buzz she said they themselves will join social media when they want to, “I don’t put my kid on social media I wait for them to be grownups they put themselves and make a decision.”
Insisting however that the choice to put one’s family on Social media is personal, “Everybody has a preference and a choice. For me, that is what has worked for me. I don’t hide them but I don’t publicize them so everybody knows I have 3 children and I have been married for 26 years. I have a beautiful family but I think putting your family on the line is a personal preference and choice.” Adding that she is on social media purely for work, “I only do social media because of my career to out my art out there and reach out to people with my ministry and not for my private and personal life.”
On whether putting one’s kids on social media is the right thing to do, “I believe there are many disadvantages of not doing it because it is like you’re choosing your battle. I don’t think I want my children exposed to cyber-bullying. When they’re grow up and they choose to and can fight on their own, it is up to them as long as it is not me who has put them in that space but if it works for you and you and your family have decided then it’s a beautiful thing.”
