400 Litres of Chang’aa Recovered in Security Operation

Security officers in Maara Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County, have intensified operations against the production and sale of illegal alcohol following a major seizure in Mathare Village.

During the operation in Mwimbi Ward, authorities recovered approximately 400 litres of chang’aa believed to have been prepared for illegal distribution.

The alcohol was stored in twenty containers, each with a capacity of 20 litres.

According to the security team, some of the containers had been cleverly concealed beneath beds and inside house ceilings, apparently to prevent officers from discovering the illegal stock.

Despite the successful recovery, the individuals suspected of being behind the brewing operation managed to escape before they could be arrested.

Deputy County Commissioner Issues Warning

Maara Deputy County Commissioner Unice Wambua condemned the continued production and distribution of illicit alcohol, warning that the government would not allow the illegal business to continue unchecked.

Wambua said security agencies would maintain pressure on those involved in the trade through sustained enforcement operations across the constituency.

She urged individuals engaged in illegal brewing and distribution to abandon the business before facing the consequences of the ongoing crackdown.

Authorities Promise Continued Crackdown

The deputy county commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating illicit alcohol in Mathare Village, noting that the operation would continue until the area was free from the illegal trade.

The latest seizure forms part of broader efforts by security agencies to address the production and circulation of unregulated alcoholic drinks, which authorities associate with public health and security concerns.

Although the suspected brewers escaped during the operation, officials have indicated that enforcement efforts will continue as they seek to dismantle the networks behind the illegal business.

Residents have also been urged to support the authorities by sharing information that could help identify individuals involved in the trade.

With 400 litres of illicit alcohol already off the streets, authorities are sending a clear message to illegal brewers: the crackdown is far from over.
