Kuria Names Kalonzo as Alleged Preferred Candidate
Moses Kuria has injected fresh intrigue into Kenya’s emerging 2027 political battle after claiming that Uhuru Kenyatta and Rigathi Gachagua have already picked Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka as their preferred presidential candidate.
Speaking during a television interview while discussing Edwin Sifuna’s reported interest in the presidency, Kuria argued that the ODM Secretary General could find himself politically isolated if he moves forward without building strong alliances.
Kuria claimed that influential figures around Sifuna may be encouraging him to believe that he has enough political strength to independently pursue the top seat.
According to Kuria, however, the political landscape is already being shaped by bigger coalition discussions.
He specifically alleged that Uhuru and Gachagua had agreed to support Kalonzo.
“The candidate for Rigathi Gachagua and Uhuru Kenyatta is Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka. It has already been decided,” Kuria claimed.
Gachagua’s Political Strategy
Kuria also offered his interpretation of Gachagua’s own ambitions, claiming that the former deputy president may not be interested in directly contesting the presidency in 2027.
He argued that Gachagua understands the political opposition he could face in a national race and has instead opted to work with Kalonzo.
Kuria further alleged that Gachagua had allowed members of his political network to cooperate with the Wiper leader.
