Main Story

Seven Confirmed Dead

Seven people have been confirmed dead following a tragic accident at the ACK Salama area along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway in Makueni County.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:30 PM on Sunday and involved four vehicles, including a passenger bus, a trailer, and two private cars.

Authorities reported that four men and three women were among those who lost their lives in the incident.

How the Accident Happened

According to Mukaa Sub-County Police Commander Hussein Abduba, the PSV bus belonging to Rambo Sacco was travelling towards Nairobi when the accident occurred near the Machakos–Wote junction, a few kilometres past Salama town.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a lorry travelling in the opposite direction crossed into the bus’s lane, leading to a head-on collision.

“The lorry left its lane and entered the opposite lane,” Abduba said while confirming the incident.

The impact triggered a multi-vehicle crash involving two additional private vehicles.

Dozens Injured

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and evacuated the injured victims to Sultan Hamud Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Police confirmed that 27 people sustained serious injuries during the crash.

The damaged vehicles were later removed from the scene to allow the smooth flow of traffic as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

Renewed Road Safety Concerns

The latest tragedy adds to the growing number of fatal accidents reported on the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway, a major transport route that has witnessed numerous deadly crashes over the years.

Road safety stakeholders continue to urge motorists to observe traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, and remain vigilant, especially during night travel.

For the families affected, the journey ended in heartbreak a painful reminder that a single moment on the road can change lives forever.
