Ukrainian authorities reported that at least nine people were killed during Russian drone and missile strikes targeting areas including Kyiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk.
Massive Drone Assault After Ceasefire
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched more than 200 drones shortly after the ceasefire period expired, accusing Moscow of choosing escalation instead of extending peace efforts.
According to Ukrainian officials, air defence systems intercepted many of the drones, but several attacks still struck civilian areas and infrastructure.
In Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, drone strikes reportedly killed civilians and left a nine-month-old child critically injured.
Other attacks damaged residential buildings and a kindergarten near Kyiv, while railway and power facilities in different regions also suffered destruction.
Ceasefire Efforts Collapse
The renewed attacks followed the breakdown of a temporary ceasefire reportedly backed by the United States and linked to Victory Day commemorations in Russia.
The three-day truce had raised brief hopes of reduced fighting, but tensions remained high throughout the pause as both sides accused each other of violating the agreement.
Since the full-scale invasion began in 2022, drone and missile warfare has become a major part of the conflict, with attacks frequently targeting cities, infrastructure, and civilian areas.

The latest escalation is likely to increase international concern over the possibility of a prolonged conflict with mounting civilian casualties and humanitarian damage.
