Main Story:

A Wide Range of Opportunities for KCSE Graduates
KMTC is opening its doors to thousands of KCSE graduates with diverse academic qualifications, offering pathways in certificate, diploma, and higher diploma programmes. According to CEO Dr Kelly Oluoch, the institution has deliberately expanded its course offerings to accommodate students across different grade brackets, ensuring wider access to medical training.

Students who attained grades from C- and above can explore various programmes tailored to meet both entry-level and advanced training needs. The courses span short-term training as well as comprehensive programmes designed to equip learners with practical skills for the healthcare sector.

Courses Across Multiple Faculties
The college’s 126 programmes are distributed across several faculties, each targeting critical areas in healthcare. These include Clinical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public Health Sciences, Diagnostic Sciences, Nursing Sciences, and Information Technology in medical education.

While nursing remains the most popular choice among applicants, KMTC is keen to highlight lesser-known programmes such as medical imaging, optometry, orthopaedic trauma medicine, and health records management.

Strong Demand Locally and Abroad
KMTC continues to play a key role in Kenya’s healthcare system, supplying over 85% of the country’s mid-level health professionals. However, its reach is increasingly becoming global.

In the past year alone, thousands of graduates have secured opportunities abroad, with countries like Germany absorbing trained professionals in fields such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy. This trend reflects the rising international demand for skilled healthcare workers.

Preparing Students for Global Careers
To enhance global employability, KMTC has introduced language training in French, German, Arabic, and Amharic. Additionally, students are exposed to entrepreneurship skills to broaden their career prospects.

The institution has also facilitated access to international licensure exams, including the NCLEX-RN, which is now available locally in Nairobi. This move is expected to ease the transition for graduates seeking to work in countries like the United States and Canada.

Faster Training, Better Job Access
KMTC has restructured its programmes to ensure students complete their training within shorter timeframes while remaining competitive in the job market. Partnerships with industry players are also helping bridge the gap between graduation and employment.

Further, reforms in qualification recognition mean that some higher diploma courses are now comparable to degree programmes, allowing graduates to pursue further studies both locally and internationally.

Breaking the Nursing-Only Myth
Despite its strong reputation in nursing education, KMTC is working to change public perception about its scope. The college emphasizes that it offers far more than nursing, with over 120 courses available across its 92 campuses and additional satellite centres nationwide.

The institution hopes this awareness push will encourage more students to explore diverse career paths within the health sector.

Application Deadline Fast Approaching
Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their applications through the KUCCPS portal or visit any KMTC campus before the May 6 deadline. With growing demand for healthcare professionals, KMTC is positioning itself as a key player in shaping the future workforce.

With doors opening wider than ever, the big question is which path will you choose in your journey into healthcare?
