Grim Discovery in Mwingi
Residents of Enziu village in Mwingi, Kitui County, were left in shock after discovering the bodies of a couple in what police believe to be a murder-suicide.
The woman, identified as Elizabeth Mutethya, was found in a bush with severe injuries. Authorities reported that she had suffered a deep neck wound along with multiple stab injuries to her head and hands.
Suspect Found Dead Nearby
Following the discovery, locals guided police to a second location about 200 metres away, where the man believed to be responsible was found dead. His body was hanging from a tree, suggesting he took his own life shortly after the attack.
The man, described as a farmhand who had been working in the area for about a year, was reportedly in a relationship with the victim. Neighbours said the two were often seen together in the village.
Evidence at the Scene
At the scene where the man’s body was found, police recovered a handbag believed to belong to the victim. Inside were two switched-off mobile phones and a police abstract bearing her name.
Despite extensive searches, authorities were unable to recover the weapon used in the attack.
Investigations Ongoing
Police have launched investigations to determine what led to the tragic incident. The bodies of both individuals were moved to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
The case adds to growing concerns over relationship-related violence, with authorities noting an increase in similar incidents across the country.
Another Case Under Probe
In a separate incident in Dagahaley, Garissa County, police are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body in a bush.
The deceased, identified as Yunnis Omar Ali, had reportedly been missing since mid-March. Authorities are working to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

Police statistics indicate that suicide cases remain a serious issue, with multiple incidents reported daily. Many of these cases are linked to personal disputes, including relationship conflicts currently under investigation.
