The death of 19-year-old Faith Musembi, a student at Mount Kenya University (MKU), has cast a shadow over Thika. Her body was found inside her rented house, and her family is demanding justice while accusing the police of mishandling the situation.
According to Faith’s father, Boniface Musembi, he received a call demanding a ransom for his daughter’s release. Despite his prompt action in sending the money and reporting the incident to the Thika Police Station, his concerns were allegedly dismissed.
Feeling unheard, Musembi went to MKU to seek help in locating Faith. His efforts continued the next day when he found his daughter’s house locked and learned from a nearby vendor that she had been seen the previous evening.

Further attempts to report his concerns to the Thika DCI office were also reportedly met with skepticism. In a desperate move, Musembi broke into the house and tragically found Faith’s lifeless body.
The family blames police inaction for the devastating outcome. Adding to the heartbreak, Faith’s uncle received further ransom demands and disturbing photos via her phone after her death.
The authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding Faith’s death.
