Planning to travel this weekend for Christmas? Here is the New Updated Fare List

Published

Mostly in December, most Kenyans travel from major cities such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Kisumu to rural homes to join their families for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

As they delved deeper into their pockets, travelers in Nairobi were left perplexed to see that tickets had been hiked at numerous bus terminals and booking offices.

It is not usually that way that fare prices tend to be hiked until maybe it is a festive season or new year because the demand is always too high from the public, which is why they tend to benefit from it by adding the fare.

The Kenya Railways booking office for the Nairobi-Kisumu train reports that all seats are booked up to December 26, indicating that most people traveling to the Nyanza region, Western, and Rift Valley have opted for the train.

From Nairobi to Kisumu, regular seats go for Sh600, while VIP seats are being booked at a cost of Sh2,000.

For those using buses, the fares range from 1,800 to 2, 000 from Nairobi to the western region, thus Kitale, Kisumu, Bungoma, and Eldoret, which has been revised upward from the normal Sh1,400.

The shuttles heading to Eldoret from Nairobi are charging passengers Sh1,700, and those heading to Kitale are paying Sh2,000.

However, Ena Coach is the only operator that has not hiked its fare, retaining its Sh1,600 for Nairobi-Nakuru routes and KSH 2,000 for Nairobi-Mombasa routes.

Citizens, on the other hand, reacted to the matter of seeing Kenyans congested in the booking offices, asking why they were all leaving Nairobi.

Some even went ahead, wondering why people would resort to going home in this hard-hitting economy. Sharing their thoughts.

Below are some of those reactions from the video that was shared online, showing residents lined up waiting for their turn to book a ticket.

“Please, can someone tell me, Munaenda wapi juu? I am just here with no plans.”

“Watu wanaenda wapy juu for sure bora mimi niko na Wi-Fi na series; I call it a day.”

“Mnaachia nani Nairobi, akina nani watavusha Nyavu na Shusho.”
