President William Ruto will be out of state for two months now to allow renovations to take place. He opted for renovation as building a new one would cost fortunes, which he said would be irrelevant at the moment when the country is struggling with paying debts and high costs of living.

This is because architects had advised that parts of the expansive colonial structure, which is 117 years old, had become unfit for habitation and needed an upgrade.

It has now emerged that the renovations will cost taxpayers Sh795 million. The mini-budget increased from the original Sh195 million estimate for the State House renovations by an additional Sh600 million.

In the last 10 days, President Ruto has spent time at State House Nakuru and Eldoret State Lodge, where he has had the opportunity to operate from his Sugoi home in Uasin Gishu County.

There are plans to renovate other state houses and lodges around the nation.

Kenyans have responded to news of the new fee in a variety of ways on social media. Below are some of their comments.

Naipamei kaikai: State House Nairobi will be renovated at the cost of Ksh. 795M by June and the Mombasa State House will cost around Ksh.500M. The concrete used to construct State House during the colonization time is unique hence the high cost of renovation.

Boss Yator: So apparently Tanzania spent ksh 175M to build their State House from scratch to what you see in frame one but it will cost ksh785M to renovate State House?… the BoQ should be shared for public scrutiny!

Wangui Macharia: State House inakuwa renovated but barabara zikiharibika zinaitwa Uhuru biscuits roads. This government has drunk priorities

Most Wanted: MCSK Iko funny, yaani inatoa 20 M for 16k musicians which is equivalent to 1250 bob per artist alafu sasa Kuna state house karibu ifike 1 billion for renovations, where is the government’s arm in supporting local talent?
