MCSK Chairman said that many have received good money, including Otile Brown, among other artists.

“We have someone like Otile Brown who got over 100… I think it was 120,000 ksh. There are those who are getting 80, 60, even 10.” MCSK Chairman explained.

Explaining why the payment is not equal, saying that people are paid according to the work they have put in, and adding that there are two generals of distribution: general distribution and scientific distribution. Defining the two differently, general distribution entails paying all registered artists the minimal amount; scientific distribution entails paying an individual based on their airplay and their hard work.

The MCSK Chairman said that going forward, all artists will be receiving a good sum of money, and nobody will be getting peanuts because things have been restructured.

Clarifying that they don’t have sides and that they treat all artists the same, be it gospel artists, Gengetone artists, or hip-hop artists, says that what works is the hard work one puts in.

He urged artists to keep working so that their craft can pay them a good deal.

The MCSK CEO urged the media broadcasting channels to play more local content so that artists can receive a good sum of money, adding that the reason why gospel artists are earning more is that their music is relatable and loved by many.

Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of MCSK, says that he is championing 75 ~ 85% local content as well as mentorship so that the artists can be guided on how to do right and earn more.
