Residents Mourn Elderly Couple in Enchoro Village

Residents of Enchoro village in Nyamira County gathered at the home of Jacob Ragera on Sunday following the fatal attack on the elderly man and his wife.

The couple reportedly suffered deep cuts during the incident, which neighbours suspect took place at around 6pm on Saturday as heavy rain swept through the area.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, with investigators expected to establish what happened and whether one or more people were involved.

Family Says Couple Had No Known Disputes

The family has expressed confusion over the killings, saying they were unaware of any disagreements involving the couple and their relatives or neighbours.

Peterson Onchaga, the deceased man’s brother, said the couple were elderly, unwell and living alone, while their children were away from home.

He suggested that the heavy rain may have provided cover for the attacker or attackers to approach the house unnoticed. However, the number of people involved has not been established.

The family is now appealing for assistance from authorities as they seek answers about the deaths.

Relatives Demand Justice

Naomi Kerubo, the couple’s daughter, called on the government to help establish who was responsible and ensure the family receives justice.

The relatives say they are struggling to understand why anyone would target the elderly couple, particularly because they are not aware of any family or neighbourhood conflict that could explain the incident.

They also say no property appears to have been stolen from the home. The absence of an apparent theft has added to their uncertainty over the possible motive.

Police Launch Investigations

Nyamira West Deputy County Commissioner Florence Obunga confirmed that investigations into the incident are underway.

The bodies were transferred to the Nyamira County morgue as authorities begin working to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Investigators will need to piece together the available evidence to determine how the attack unfolded and identify those responsible, if foul play is confirmed.

For the family and residents of Enchoro, the priority remains finding answers and ensuring that the deaths of the elderly couple do not go unresolved.

For a family already grieving the loss of their elderly parents, the search for answers continues and they are hoping investigators will establish who was responsible and why.
