Main Story

Man Intercepted at State House Gate

A man is in police custody after allegedly attempting to enter a restricted section of State House through Gate D in Nairobi.

The incident occurred at around 1:32pm on October 4, 2026, when General Service Unit (GSU) officers stationed at the gate reportedly noticed the man attempting to gain access.

According to police, the suspect was driving a tuk-tuk and allegedly ignored instructions from the officers to stop.

He is said to have continued towards security barriers at speed before officers managed to intercept and arrest him.

Suspect Said He Wanted to Meet President

After his arrest, police questioned the man about his actions.

Officers said he claimed he had gone to State House because he wanted to meet President William Ruto.

However, investigators established that he did not have an appointment to see the President.

He was subsequently placed in custody as detectives continued questioning him to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and what may have motivated his actions.

Security Operations Mounted

The incident triggered additional security operations around the area as officers moved to establish whether there was any wider security concern.

It was not immediately established whether President Ruto was at State House at the time of the incident. The President had returned to Nairobi from Mombasa on Friday evening.

Authorities subsequently heightened security around the facility as a precaution.

Incident Brings Gate D Back Into Focus

The latest incident has drawn attention to Gate D, which has previously been the scene of a serious security incident.

In October 2025, a GSU officer attached to State House was fatally attacked while on duty near the gate along Dennis Pritt Road.

Police identified the suspect in that case as Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi, who was subsequently charged with the murder of Constable Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka.

Court records and reports indicate that Musyimi allegedly approached the security point while carrying a bow and arrows concealed in a sack. Constable Matanka was struck during the attack and later died at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Musyimi pleaded not guilty to the murder charge in April 2026 after a mental assessment found him fit to stand trial.

Court Rejects Bail Bid

In May 2026, the High Court declined Musyimi’s application for bail, citing concerns relating to public safety and national security. He remained in custody as the murder case proceeded.

The latest incident at the same gate has therefore renewed attention on security measures around State House, although police had not indicated that the two incidents were connected.

Investigations into Sunday’s incident were ongoing, with authorities expected to establish the suspect’s intentions before deciding on the next legal action.

At one of Kenya’s most heavily guarded institutions, every attempted breach raises questions about security and Sunday’s incident is likely to keep those questions in focus.
