Suspect Detained as Police Investigate
A man accused of assaulting a woman in Kamakis, Ruiru Sub-County, has been ordered to remain in police custody for 14 days as investigators complete their inquiries.
Isaac Ochalo was arrested a day before being taken to court, where he faced a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
He denied the allegation and pleaded not guilty.
Ruiru Police Commander Charles Kibathi said detectives had requested additional time to investigate and interrogate the suspect.
The court granted the request, with Ochalo set to remain at Gatong’ora Police Station during the period.
Woman Allegedly Assaulted While Visiting Relative
According to a police report, Teresia Wambui Wairimu, a resident of Thika Town, was visiting her cousin in Kamakis on Sunday evening when the alleged incident occurred.
Wairimu told police that she arrived at the residence at around 6pm.
Police identified the suspect as Isaac Gatuthu Ocharo in the report.
According to investigators, Ocharo had been involved in a disagreement with his wife when Wairimu intervened.
Police allege that the confrontation subsequently turned towards Wairimu, who was physically assaulted.
Incident Captured on Video
The alleged assault was recorded on video, footage that later drew attention to the incident and prompted police intervention.
Officers who visited the scene began investigations, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Wairimu was subsequently taken to Ruiru Level 4 Hospital for medical assessment.
Authorities have not disclosed details about her medical condition.
The 14-day detention period will allow detectives to gather further evidence, record statements and complete their investigations before determining the next step in the case.
