Main Story

Three Church Leaders Granted Bond

Three leaders from St. Abraham Israel Assemblies of God Church in Bondo, Siaya County, have been released on bond as they face charges connected to an incident in which four children suffered burns during an alleged religious ritual.

The accused Gaudensia Juma, Steven Omondi and Clinton Obudho appeared before Bondo Law Courts Magistrate Christabel Maiyo, where they denied the charges brought against them.

The court granted the three different bond terms depending on the individual accused.

Juma was released on a personal bond of KSh 100,000, with an alternative cash bail option of KSh 50,000. Omondi and Obudho were each granted personal bonds of KSh 300,000.

Court Warns Against Witness Interference

While allowing the accused to remain out of custody as the case continues, Magistrate Maiyo ordered them not to contact or interfere with prosecution witnesses or the parents of the affected children.

The magistrate cautioned that failure to comply with the court’s directives could lead to the cancellation of their bonds.

The conditions are intended to safeguard the ongoing legal process and prevent interference with individuals who may provide evidence in the matter.

Investigations Follow Incident at Bondo Church

The charges arise from an incident at the Bondo-based church in which four minors reportedly suffered burn injuries during a religious exercise allegedly conducted to drive away demons.

The incident prompted police investigations, which culminated in the arrest of the three church leaders and their subsequent appearance in court.

The allegations remain before the court, and the accused have pleaded not guilty. Their release on bond does not amount to a finding of guilt.

The case is expected to return to Bondo Law Courts on October 26, 2026, for mention as the legal process continues.

As the case moves forward, the focus remains on accountability, the protection of children and the importance of ensuring that every allegation is examined fairly through the justice system.
