Main Story
University Student Dies After Alleged Stabbing
Police in Murang’a are investigating the death of Kelvin Murimi, a second-year student at Murang’a University of Technology, following an alleged stabbing incident in Murang’a town.
Murimi was reportedly attacked at around 5am on Saturday in the VM area as he made his way home after attending an event at the university.
According to police, the 20-year-old was able to tell those around him that he had allegedly been stabbed by a fellow student before he died.
Officers from Murang’a Police Station, alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, later visited Murang’a Level Five Hospital after receiving information about the injured student.
Police said medical examinations indicated that Murimi had suffered a serious stab wound on the left side of his abdomen, resulting in significant blood loss.
Detectives Begin Investigations
Murimi was pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics at the university.
Following his death, crime scene investigators processed and documented the relevant evidence as detectives began working to establish what led to the attack and identify the circumstances surrounding his final moments.
His remains were transferred to the mortuary at Murang’a Level Five Hospital, where they are being preserved ahead of an autopsy.
Investigators are expected to rely on witness accounts, forensic evidence and other findings as they piece together what happened after the university event.
66-Year-Old Man Dies After Family Confrontation
In a separate incident in Nairobi, police have arrested a 28-year-old man following the death of his 66-year-old father in Mowlem, Nairobi East.
The deceased, identified as James Hunja Macharia, was reported to police by his brother after his death raised concerns over possible assault.
Police later visited the mortuary at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where they reportedly observed several injuries to the deceased’s head.
Investigators subsequently established that Hunja had been involved in a confrontation with his son at their family home on Friday, October 2.
Son Arrested as Police Probe Circumstances
According to police, the son allegedly pushed his father during the confrontation, causing him to fall and sustain a head injury.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that his father regained consciousness after the incident but later complained of a headache.
He was subsequently taken to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The 28-year-old was arrested and remains in police custody as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding his father’s death.
Police said he is expected to face further legal proceedings once investigations are complete.
Two Cases Under Investigation
The two incidents are being handled separately, with detectives in both Murang’a and Nairobi working to establish the full circumstances that led to the deaths.
While the Murang’a case centres on an alleged stabbing involving university students, the Nairobi investigation is examining the events surrounding the fatal confrontation between a father and son.
Further findings, including postmortem results and evidence gathered by investigators, are expected to shed more light on both cases.
Two families are now mourning, while investigators work to turn unanswered questions into clear accounts of what happened.
