Main Story

11-Year-Old Makes Disturbing Discovery

The incident came to light early Sunday morning after the couple’s 11-year-old son reportedly went outside and discovered his father’s body.

Police said Kirui, a nurse at a county referral hospital, was found hanging from a tree near the family home at around 6am on October 4, 2026.

The child is said to have alerted neighbours, who then contacted authorities.

Wife Found Dead Inside the House

After responding to the scene, police officers entered the family home and found Kirui’s wife, Viola Cherotich, lying unresponsive on the matrimonial bed.

Cherotich, 42, was a primary school teacher.

According to police, her body was covered with clothes and bedding. Investigators also reported seeing blood coming from her mouth.

The circumstances surrounding her death have not yet been established.

Police Note History of Domestic Violence

Detectives said the couple had a reported history of domestic violence, a detail that is now part of the investigation into the deaths.

The house was reportedly in disarray, with officers describing the scene as disturbed and ransacked.

Several used adrenaline vials were also recovered from the residence as investigators documented items that could help explain the events leading to the deaths.

No suicide note was found at the scene, police said.

Family Left Waiting for Answers

The couple lived at the home with two of their children, while two other children were attending boarding school, according to information provided to police by neighbours.

The discovery has left the family and community waiting for answers as detectives work to reconstruct what happened before the deaths.

Crime Scene Investigation officers from Bomet processed the residence and surrounding area before the bodies were removed.

Postmortem to Guide Investigation

The bodies were taken to the mortuary at Longisa County Referral Hospital, where they are being preserved pending postmortem examinations.

The examinations are expected to provide additional information about the cause and circumstances of Cherotich’s death and help investigators determine what happened before Kirui’s death.

Police have not disclosed a final conclusion on the circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths, and investigations remain ongoing.
