Before Maandy Kabaya started spitting lines and rhyms, she was a DJ popularly known as Kabaya…and as the name suggests, Maandy was indeed the baddest in the game until she called it quits.
- Maandy speaks on her first hustle in the entertainment industry.
According to Maandy, DJing is a career she embarked on immediately after high school. From what she said is that at the time she had already mastered the art of entertaining people from her role as an entertainment prefect who organized events back in highschool.

Born to entertain
Speaking on this, Maandy went on to reveal that DJing was good hustle that often saw her bag atleast Ksh 35,000 a month from a saturday gig she had.
I used to DJ every Saturday and earned Sh 35000 a month, which was great, Maandy opened up.
However she gave up on the DJing career following advise from a certain producer who felt she was in the wrong field.
According to Mandy this same music producer saw potential in her when nobody did.
However looking at how the Kenyan music industry is dominated by men, it first seemed hard for Mandy until she realized even the boy child in the music industry was appreciative of her talent – hence the reason she went all in, giving many a run for their money.
Looking back, Maandy is grateful to have stepped out of her comfort zone as she now remains top female artist in the Kenyan music industry – dominating arbantone music with her bad girl attitude.
The young lady has so far released several songs with arbantone bigwigs like Breeder among others. Fans however continue to look forward to the day she collaborates with Dyana Cods, as they both remain the only two females changing the face of our local music.
