“I was depressed, I had completely given up” ~Fena Gitu speaks on how she went broke after her first album

Fena Gitu opened up about being a victim of depression back in 2015 after releasing her first album.

The award-winning artist, during an interview with Cate Rira, claimed she went quiet and temporarily had to quit music due to a lack of money. She sought to stay for six months with her best friend in Lang’ata since she also left home.

“I was in a really dark place; nothing was inspiring me. I left home and went to stay at my friend’s home in Lang’ata. I had nothing, not even rent. I went quiet, and I couldn’t go to the studio to record music since I had no money. I started wondering what I did wrong.”

Fena talked about how she tried to reinvest her music but to no avail, adding that she did not receive support for her good music, but other artists who sang songs that didn’t make sense were supported with no consideration for those who took time to craft good music.

She added that the things she went through were her turning points, adding that the experience taught her a lot and made her focus on rebuilding herself and discovering her worth.

“Sometimes it is good to have that down point. It’s okay to be down for it. Don’t kill yourself for it, but allow yourself to feel the pain, the loneliness, and the fact that I am not good enough. Allow those things to charge you up! And I decided to turn the sorrow into strength because this was my turning point.”

Fena made a comeback in her music industry after she recorded ‘Sema Ng’we with Jack on the Beat, which revived her fortune again. She recorded albums back to back, and she came back bigger and better.
