Fleeing from Medellín to Miami, Griselda Blanco creates one of the most ruthless cartels in history. The series that is already streaming on Netflix has six episodes, revealing the whole plot and how it plays out.

The plot of the series revolves around Griselda Blanco’s journey from Medellín to becoming the “Godmother” of Miami’s drug empire. The series chronicles the unwinding of Griselda’s fortunes, spurred by betrayal and an all-encompassing sense of paranoia permeating her criminal consortium. As the narrative progresses, Griselda confronts adversities, including her apprehension and fracturing familial ties. The tale gains intricacy with a scrupulously orchestrated abduction, detentions, and a convoluted web of duplicity. Amidst this upheaval, Rivi, Griselda’s primary aide, assumes a pivotal role. The narrative takes a tragic turn when Griselda uncovers the homicide of her trio of progenies.

Griselda Blanco was one of the most powerful and ruthless drug traffickers in history. She was responsible for smuggling tons of cocaine into the United States, orchestrating a brutal war among rival cartels in Miami, and ordering the murders of hundreds of people, including some of her own husbands and children. Unfortunately, her violent and lavish lifestyle eventually caught up with her, and she spent nearly two decades in prison before being assassinated in her hometown of Medellín.Colombia by a rider who shot her twice in the head.

Below is Griselda Blanco’s life and death story:

Blanco was born on February 15, 1943, in Cartagena, Colombia, but moved to Medellín with her mother when she was three years old. She grew up in poverty and was exposed to a criminal lifestyle at an early age. According to some accounts, she kidnapped and killed a boy when she was only 11 years old and later became a pickpocket and a prostitute. She married her first husband, Carlos Trujillo, when she was a teenager and had three sons with him. They started a marijuana-dealing business in Colombia but soon switched to cocaine, which was becoming more popular and profitable in the 1970s.

In 1971, Blanco and her second husband, Alberto Bravo, a drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel, illegally immigrated to the United States and settled in Queens, New York. There, they established a large-scale cocaine operation, using innovative techniques such as hiding the drug in lingerie and importing it through a network of couriers. They also expanded their market to other cities, such as Los Angeles and Miami. Blanco and Bravo became very wealthy and lived a lavish lifestyle, spending millions of dollars on cars, jewelry, and properties. They also became notorious for their violence and ruthlessness, eliminating anyone who crossed them or posed a threat to their business.

In the year 1975, Griselda Blanco returned to Colombia after facing drug charges in the United States. She ended up killing her husband Bravo for suspecting that he had stolen her money and took over his share of the business, becoming the sole leader of the gang. She then moved to Miami, Florida, where she met the drug lord cartels, Ochoa Brother and Pablo Escobar, whose rivalry made innocent people shed blood and cost the lives of many.

Griselda Blanco, whose relationship was complicated having been in more than three marriages with four sons, ordered two of them assassinated because she felt like they had betrayed her, and trust is something she held close despite them being her own blood. She also did a number of things aside from dealing with Cocaine by trying to kidnap the son’s president, John F. Kennedy Jr., but failed.

In the year 1985, Griselda was finally arrested by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) in Irvine, California, charged with a federal conspiracy to manufacture, import, and distribute cocaine. She was extradited to New York and issued a life sentence. Being a cartel, she was able to strike a deal after pleading guilty to some of the charges, and her sentence was reduced to 15 years in prison.

In 2004, Blanco was released from prison and deported to Colombia. She kept a low profile and lived in Medellín; reportedly, she became a born-again Christian and devoted herself to charity work. With that, scars were still all over her, and she still had targets on her back despite having reformed in the 15 years she was in prison, and people were on her neck wanting to drop her as they saw her as a potential threat, whereas some wanted revenge for the loss and pain she had caused them back then.

On September 3rd, 2012, she was assassinated by a gunman on a motorcycle, who shot her twice in the head as she was leaving a butcher shop. That marked the end of her journey, passing at the age of 69 years old.

Blanco’s life and crimes have inspired numerous books, documentaries, movies, and TV shows, such as Cocaine Cowboys, The Godmother, and Griselda, which is on Netflix as we speak. She has also been portrayed by actors such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sofia Vergara, and Jennifer Lopez.

She is considered one of the most influential and notorious figures in the history of the drug trade, and one of the few women who rose to the top of a male-dominated underworld.
