Speaking through her Twitter account, Elsa said that trending in Kenya isn’t ideal, according to her, as she did trend and received a lot of criticism from the public, which was a complete contradiction to what she had expected from her own people, who were supposed to embrace her, and she opted to leave for America.

She has always praised the United States as one of the best countries that doesn’t discriminate and throw stones at their own and has done more than she ever did when she was in Kenya.

I am praying and wishing that all the Kenyan dark ladies go where they are valued and appreciated so that they can also get the limelight to show the world what they are capable of.

“Hope the dark-skinned babies go where they’re appreciated. In America, I’m shooting magazine covers, and in Kenya, I wouldn’t make a betting sports ad. What a  joke!”Elsa Majimbo’s thread read:

She goes on defending her statement, saying that the entire 3 years she has lived abroad, no one has ever made a colorist comment, making America the best country because it accepted her the way she was.

The 22-year-old comedian said in one of her TikTok videos that facing discrimination and negativity due to her dark skin compelled her to seek a more supportive environment abroad.

She recalled the heartbreaking remarks, saying she felt the need to move out because she felt being in Kenya would just leave her depressed with no progression.

“I faced a lot of it when I grew up… There were a lot of comments on ‘Oh, you are so dark.’ There was so much of that, and when that started happening when I was growing up, I was like, I will never progress in this country with this kind of mentality,” Elsa shared back then.

Aside from being an influencer and content creator, Elsa Majimbo is also known for her daily videos in which she says, ‘I am going to show you what I am wearing today, something that has been loved by many and is even being emulated by some.
