Cabinet Secretary in charge of Education, Ezekiel Machogu, has announced a new grading system for the 2023 sitting candidates.
The new changes will apply to all the current sitting candidates and future candidates as well.
The new grading system is set to increase the number of people joining the tertiary education level.
Speaking during the 2023 National Examinations season launch that took place yesterday, the CS said that only two subjects will be used for grading: mathematics and one language subject that can either be English or Swahili, not forgetting the sign language people as well.
In addition to the two subjects, the examiners will be required to pick five best-performing subjects from each student as well. This time, it will be a little different from the way it has been happening in previous years, where five subjects were used in grading.
According to Ezekiel Machogu, this newly introduced forum will see that the majority of the students from high school qualify to join universities and Tvets.
“It is expected that the new reform measure will increase the number of students qualifying for universities, diplomas, and TVET training at certificate and artisan levels.” Said Education CS
