Interior Cabinet Secretary in charge of Interior and National administration has given an update as far as the exhumation of bodies at Shakahola is concerned.
The Cabinet Secretary has shared pictures online on his social media page saying that they are on their second phase and assured the public that the process is friendly as it’s being undertaken with dignity.
“The second phase of exhumation exercise is underway at Shakahola forest. The exhumation process is a legal, medical, and human rights exercise that must be undertaken methodically and carefully to protect the dignity and privacy of families of the deceased persons.”
He has also said that the Government will provide all the necessarily information and the restrictions that are in place are to protect the deceased families rights.
“The Government will avail all information on the ongoing exercise, and limited access to the exhumation sites is to ensure that there is no violation of fundamental rights.”
According to the Cabinet Secretary, So far 65 people have been recovered and the process is looking promising, 25 have been apprehended and the investigation is closing in on a new phase.
Pastor Mackenzie’s ranch has been closed down and only authorised people are being allowed to access the area.
“65 persons have been rescued from the thickets, including two who were evacuated Tuesday morning by the multi-agency security team.25 people have so far been arrested, and the investigation team is closing in on level two and level three perpetrators who aided Mr. Mackenzie to execute the heinous atrocity.
The entire 50,000 acre Chakama ranch remains a security area and scene of crime with limited access for all persons who are unauthorized.”
Pastor Mackenzie is currently in Police custody and his fate is yet to be decided despite his congregants shouting for his release.
He was charged with making people fast to death.
