Suspected fraudulently acquired Prado intercepted

Detectives in Moyale, Marsabit County, have arrested two men following the recovery of a Toyota Prado believed to have been acquired through fraudulent means.

The vehicle was intercepted within Moyale town during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected vehicle-related crime.

Police identified the driver as 26-year-old Mohamed Amin, while his passenger was named as 22-year-old Ahmed Abdulahi Hajji.

The two were taken into custody after detectives raised questions over the vehicle’s registration details.

Chassis number raises suspicion

Preliminary checks reportedly showed that the chassis number on the white Toyota Prado, registration number KAR 555M, did not correspond with information held by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The discrepancy has raised concerns that the vehicle may have been tampered with or registered using fraudulent details.

Detectives are expected to conduct further checks to establish the vehicle’s history and determine how it came into the suspects’ possession.

Weapon-related items and bhang recovered

A search of the vehicle uncovered additional items that detectives are examining as part of the investigation.

Officers reportedly found an empty pistol magazine and a pistol holster concealed inside a glove compartment.

Rolls of bhang were also recovered during the search.

Police are now investigating the origin of the vehicle and the circumstances surrounding the possession of the recovered items.

Suspects await court appearance

The two suspects remain in police custody as detectives complete the necessary investigations and processing ahead of their arraignment.

The recovery forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to identify and disrupt suspected vehicle fraud and other criminal activities in the region.

With the vehicle now in police custody, detectives will be looking to establish its true ownership, history and how it ended up in Moyale.
