Police in Busia County have arrested a PSV driver following the recovery of 20 kilogrammes of cannabis from a vehicle travelling along the Busia-Kisumu Road.
Officers from Bumala Police Station intercepted the vehicle, registration number KCP 022H, after receiving information about a suspected narcotics consignment.
A search of the vehicle’s boot led to the discovery of a green sack and a black bag containing the suspected cannabis.
Driver Arrested
Further investigations by detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) in Busia reportedly established that the recovered packages were not ordinary luggage belonging to any passenger.
The vehicle’s driver, identified as 39-year-old Stephen Otieno Jumbo, also known as Barry, was subsequently arrested.
Detectives allege that Jumbo was involved in the transportation of the narcotics.
Conductor Escapes
Investigators have also linked the vehicle’s conductor, Patrick Omondi, to the suspected operation.
According to police, Omondi fled from the scene as officers moved in to make the arrests.

Detectives have since intensified efforts to locate him as they continue investigating the source and intended destination of the recovered drugs.
Anti-Narcotics Probe Continues
The seizure is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to disrupt the transportation and distribution of illegal narcotics across the country.
The recovered cannabis has been secured as an exhibit as investigators build their case against the arrested suspect and pursue the conductor who remains at large.
The suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
As the driver remains in custody and detectives search for the escaped conductor, investigators will now be looking to establish where the cannabis came from and where it was headed.
