Munyua Wins All-Kenyan Final

David “Why Not?” Munyua has booked another trip to the Professional Darts Corporation World Darts Championship after surviving a thrilling all-Kenyan final in Nairobi.

The Nairobi-based veterinarian edged Evans Njuguna 8–7 in the African Darts Group North African Qualifier final, with the contest going down to the final leg.

The two players were locked at 7–7 before Munyua held his nerve in the 15th leg to seal qualification and secure another opportunity to compete among the world’s top darts players.

Comfortable Route to the Final

Munyua had looked in strong form throughout the knockout stages.

He opened his run with an emphatic 6–0 quarter-final victory over Okalany Robert Clegg before facing Peter Wanjii in the semi-final.

A 7–5 win over Wanjii sent Munyua into the final, where he produced another composed performance to overcome Njuguna.

The victory means he will return to London for a second straight appearance at Alexandra Palace.

A Historic Debut

Munyua’s first appearance at the PDC World Darts Championship came with a major milestone.

He became the first Kenyan player to compete at the tournament, putting the country’s flag on one of the biggest stages in professional darts.

His debut quickly became one of the tournament’s memorable stories after he pulled off a remarkable comeback against Belgian star Mike De Decker.

Munyua initially found himself two sets down but refused to surrender, eventually turning the match around to claim a 3–2 victory.

One of the highlights was a spectacular 135 checkout that helped fuel his comeback.

The Walk-On That Won Over London

Beyond his performance at the oche, Munyua also caught the attention of the Alexandra Palace crowd with his energetic entrance.

His walk-on to Mwaki became an instant crowd favourite, adding a distinctly Kenyan flavour to his historic appearance.

Now, after securing qualification once again, Munyua will have another opportunity to entertain the London crowd while carrying Kenya’s hopes on the international darts stage.

For Kenyan sports fans, his return also marks another important step in the country’s growing presence in a sport that continues to gain global attention.

From making history at Alexandra Palace to earning another shot at the world’s biggest darts stage, Munyua’s journey proves that sometimes the boldest answer really is: “Why not?”
