A family in Kitui is mourning the death of a 46-year-old man who was killed while attempting to find drinking water.
Patrick Mutunga Mutemwa died on September 14 in Naviani Village, Tiva Sub-location, within Kitui Central Sub-County.
According to police, Mutemwa had been looking for water beneath the surface when the riverbank suddenly collapsed.
The force of the collapse buried him under a large amount of soil, leaving him trapped and unable to escape.
Family and Residents Launch Rescue Effort
Mutemwa’s younger brother reported the incident before joining several other men in an effort to rescue him.
The group dug through the collapsed soil and eventually managed to recover Mutemwa from the debris.
He was immediately taken to Kitui County Referral Hospital in the hope that medical attention could save his life.
However, the injuries sustained in the incident were fatal, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
