Fatal Crash in Malaba

A police officer and one of his family members have lost their lives in a road accident involving two motorcycles and a long-haul trailer in Malaba town.

The officer, who was based at the Nairobi Museum, was travelling towards Bungoma on a motorcycle carrying two passengers when the accident occurred.

Motorcycle Hit From Behind

According to preliminary reports, another motorcycle approached from behind and collided with the motorcycle carrying the officer and his passengers.

The impact threw all three occupants onto the road. Moments later, a trailer travelling in the direction of Uganda ran over them.

The police officer and one passenger died at the scene, while the third person suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for medical attention.

Suspect in Police Custody

Teso North Sub-County Police Commander Charles Chepkong’a confirmed the accident and said the rider of the motorcycle believed to have caused the collision had surrendered to authorities.

Police have detained the suspect and impounded his motorcycle at Malaba Police Station as investigations continue.

Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and determine whether any further action will be taken against those involved.
