Deadly Collision on Nakuru-Eldoret Highway
Seven people have been confirmed dead following a devastating road accident at Mlima Punda near Lessos Junction along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
According to Ainabkoi Deputy Police Commander Charles Getende, the crash involved a Mercedes Actros trailer and two Toyota Hiace public service vehicles.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the trailer was heading towards Eldoret when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle while descending a hill. During the manoeuvre, the trailer collided head-on with the two oncoming matatus.
Students Among Those Killed
Police confirmed that the driver of one of the matatus and six passengers died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.
Authorities also revealed that some of those who lost their lives were students who had recently closed school and were travelling back home, adding to the tragedy that has left many families in mourning.
Rescue Efforts
Emergency responders, police officers and local residents rushed to the scene to rescue survivors trapped inside the damaged vehicles.
The eight people who sustained serious injuries were taken to Burnt Forest Hospital and Plateau Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
